Mid-June to mid-July
A few years ago I made a series of paintings on the theme of wild flowers. Our mountains are indeed a majestic setting for an incredible and colorful number of wild flower species. It starts in March, as soon as the snow recedes and ends up in October, some small flowers resisting the colder and shorter days. But as far as “high Flora”, as I call it, is concerned it goes from mid-June to mi-July. Before that nothing, and after that they loose their colors, their posture and they naturally turn into seeds. The magic trilogy I look for, Adénostylle, Laitue and Berce usually grow together, on shaded and relatively fresh ground, they are my quest. You have to know the spots and be there when the weather and the light are favorable … from mid-June to mid-July.
